I am NOT Forgetful! (Well...)

My blog name is misleading. I actually have a very good memory! I remember names, birth dates, people. I'm great at memorizing verses or passages. I'm a champ at Concentration/Memory games. I'm a whiz at spelling - which is mostly memorization. Not surprisingly, I remember every bad thing my husband ever did! tee hee! And I am always the one who remembers where other people put their things. "Mom, where's my....?" I hear that several times a day!

So, why Forgetfulone? Well, as I grow older, I do tend to be forgetful about some things. The first thing was the basis for my very first blog post.

1. When I take a shower, if I don't wash my hair before I do anything else, I forget whether or not I've washed it by the time I get out. I've actually had to get back in the shower to wash my hair because I forgot. Pathetic.

2. I know most of you who are at least my age (over 40) will relate to this. I walk into a room and forget why I went in there. I'm often heard saying, "Why did I come in here?" Unfortunately for me, I say it out loud to which my kids respond, "I don't know. I'm not your brain."

3. Not only do I sometimes forget why I went in to a certain room, I've often been known to utter, "What was I looking for?" Again, I get, "I don't know. I'm not your brain." My kids are such comedians!

4. If I don't put my keys in the front pocket of my purse, I cannot remember where they are. And, God forbid that I use a purse that doesn't have a front pocket! I have to be methodical about this. The results are never good if I don't put the keys in the front of my purse right away.

5. I have to email myself reminders about doctor's appointments, music lessons, sports, and other activities, as well as writing them down in my planner and putting them in my yahoo calendar.
6. Have you ever forgotten what you were going to say? Of course. Have you ever done that while you were in mid-sentence? I'm guilty.

7. I forget to when television shows are on, so I usually miss them. It'd be okay if I'd remember to set the DVR. But this might explain why I'm one of the only people in the universe who has never seen American Idol or So You Think You Can Dance.

Why can't I forget to eat?

  1. I'm not 40 yet, but have on many occasions forgotten why I went into a room and what I was looking for!

  2. I like your new header! But, I am shocked, SHOCKED that you have never seen American Idol or So You Think You Can Dance. You must get your groove on when they come back. ;)

I am not 40 yet, but I'm closer to 40 than to 30. However, I could relate to all of those. What's sad is that my 14 yr. old daughter forgets why she walks in a room all the time. I worry, I worry. ;)

  3. LOL--that's all so true!! I think part of the reason we're forgetful is that we have SO many things to remember ALL the time! I have to be organized--like you said, keeping my keys in the same place--or I'd be lost!!

  4. You mean it's not just me? Whew! Thank goodness! Was beginning to think I had Mad Cow or something! I am really bad about forgetting things - in fact, your tagline is something I say OFTEN - "I've slept since then!" Many times I will tell D... a story that I've told her before - bless her heart, she just listens again. And NAMES! OMG I am so bad at remembering people's names! I can be introduced to someone and 5 minutes later I could NOT tell you their name if my life depended on it.

OK, I think I've shared enough now.

    Heh.

    Why am I here again?

  9. haha! i haven't done #1 yet, but all the rest of them! I have been an "airhead" since I was a kid. If it weren't for years of academic excellence behind me, people might very likely assume I was "special"!

  10. Wish I could forget to eat sometimes, too!

By the way - my 'forgetfulness' really got bad when I became pregnant and has steadily gotten worse. I have to be super-organized as to where I put stuff and the routines I use to get my work done, because I can NEVER remember what I did and when unless I can track back through a regular routine.

And I'm not super-organized, so you can see I have a bit of a problem!

  12. I don't think age has anything to do with it. I think modern life is too full - and there are too many stimulus. I've heard 20 year olds say the same thing - they walk into a room and...

I use Google Calendar - it sends a text message to my cell phone when I have an appointment - it works every time! ;)

  13. ummm, now what was I going to write?

I can relate to your post.
I hate it when I put something down and forget where I put it.

  14. well, I don't have to wait until I am 40 to forget such things, hihihihi...

  15. Let's put it this way, you are no more forgetful than the rest of us busy working moms! In today's world, if you can remember it all, you must be a Stepford wife or Bree on Desperate Housewives which come to think of it reminds me of a Stepford wife LOL.

  16. I ditto the Google Calendar comment - it really helps!!

  17. Oh my goodness, #1 is so me. I always seem to forget if I have washed my hair or not. I have to do things in specific order or else I will. Crazy!

But #7 I'm very good at. I'm a Reality TV junkie so I know when my show are on and should be recording on DVR LOL

  18. Haha! You sound a lot like me, but I am 30. I think it is less of an age thing and more of children-melt-your-brain thing.

  19. I'm 42 now and I think all the wicked things I did in my youth killed brain cells.

I'm to the point now that I can remember only the first letter of someone's name I forgot. If I see someone from awhile back, I'll be saying to myself "oh it begins with 'B', what is his name???".

and I know why old people use those pill containers. Sometimes I forget whether I've taken a pill or not. I actually have to sit there for a few minutes and mentally walk through my day to try to remember.

  20. I had a Spanish professor in college was was nearing retirement age and he would call them "senior moments." He was good natured about them and would joke about them so I would too.

But now as I near 30, I'm starting to worry about senior moments so I try to exercise my brain a little by playing Sudoku. (Or that's what I tell myself; maybe I'm just trying to find an excuse to procrastinate on work I need to do.)

I do have Google Calendar set up to email me reminders to pay my bills and do this and that. And I do forget what I'm going to say if I'm distracted by something/someone.

But one thing I'd never forget is when my favorite tv shows are on. :D

  23. I'm just 34 and already do all of those things. Thank goodness for TiVo and my email reminder service (http://www.memotome.com/).

I have to hang my keys on the hook beside the garage door immediately upon arrival or I won't be able to find them when need to leave again.

I also wash my hair first in the shower. If I didn't, I'd be standing in the shower saying to myself, "Why am I in here? What am I looking for?".....ha!

  24. I totally forget whether I've shampooed my hair too!

  25. Boy could I relate to the shampoo incident! More than once a week I have to take a second to remember...did I wash my hair? hee hee! That's so perfect!

I just have to add please watch American Idol...that show is so funny in the beginning and those kids are very talented in the end! THANKS!
