That got me thinking, though. Maybe I'm just a big nerd or something, since I know absolutely no one else who blogs, and I'm so addicted to it. Wait. That can't be right! All of you aren't nerds. Are you? Of course not! Regular, normal people blog. Right?
But how come no one I know blogs? Last year during lunch one day, I mentioned that I had a blog (I don't remember how it came up in the conversation), and the looks I got seemed to ask, "Are you from another planet?" My co-workers have no idea what the whole blogging experience is like. And they're missing out! Many of them are just so completely anti-technology.
Some of my co-workers have Facebook pages. I guess I must be "so old" (I'm only 43) that I have heard one-too-many-times from my 20-something co-workers, "You have a Facebook account?" What's up with that? Yes! Of course I do. And Twitter. And StumbleUpon. I'm "with-it!" I'm "hip!" I'm keeping up with the times, baby! In fact, I beat most of them to the punch with the whole Internet/technology/blog/Facebook thing. (I used to have a Myspace, but honestly, I hate Myspace!) I even met my husband on the Internet in 2001, long before Match.com was up and running. But, unlike Al Gore, I didn't invent the Internet!
My husband knows I have a blog, but he doesn't read it. Not to my knowledge, anyway. I've shown him a few things I've written, but he is really not interested. If he blogged, he would be a lurker. He wouldn't write or respond in comments. Which is FINE - I love all the lurkers out there who read my blog!
My mom knows I have a blog. My sister knows I have a blog. Neither of them knows what a blog is, though.

My children know I have a blog. They often remind me who I am, Forgetfulone, when I ask them the same question three times in a matter of fifteen minutes. Yep, five minutes is my max retention on short term memory! But my kids don't read my blog, either. Which is probably for the best.
I just wonder, how many of you - not you PRO-bloggers who know everybody - but those of you who are normal, every day, regular bloggers like me... do you know other bloggers IRL? Do your friends and co-workers blog? Do you wish they did?

My SIL is the one who introduced me to blogging, and now my mom just started one, and my dad's wife did, too. All my family knows about mine, but no one reads besides my mom and dad and SIL. Which is fine by me.
ReplyDeleteI was lucky enough to meet a fellow blogger IRL in Nov, and we have gotten together a few times since. I love her family, and they love us. It's amazing, to me anyway, that there was no weirdness, it was like we'd known each other forever! There are other bloggers I really want to hang out with, and hope to someday.
This is a really good question. My cousin Jenn from What I did in School Today got me blogging, but no one else in our family blogs and living here in no man's land people tend to be so backwards that they don't even know what DSL is. That is why my cousin got me blogging because I was so lonely for home, which LOL if she and I were still at our original home, we would have met you IRL by now. I do "TALK", you know with the real phones, with Barbara from Candy Hearts and Paper Flowers as well as IM regularly and we're working on a IRL date, but to date nope haven't done any actual IRL. I have to say that my bloggy buddies like you though seem like IRL friends. I 'talk' to you guys almost daily.
ReplyDeleteDear lord. Aside from one sister I'm the only one who blogs in my family...Though my family at least reads my blog. Not my inlaws though! They'll do Myspace or whatever, but that's it. I explained to my MIL what a blog was and she just didn't get it. A few days later my husband tried to explain it, still not getting it. She looks at me like I have 3 heads when I talk about hosting a giveaway or doing a review on my blog. Haha!
ReplyDeleteI know a few bloggers IRL but nobody really close to me.
ReplyDeleteMy mum and friend read my blog but mum never leaves a comment. lol
well I have never been described as normal but i still like blogging. I have a facebook but really are not into much. you are hip.
ReplyDeletelike u Di, the only other blogger I know is my friend Ann (purlingswine) who got me started. SO many still ask.. what is a blog? which always surprises me, since many news show and newspapers have blogs.
ReplyDeleteI so HOpe u get to meet IRL bloggers!
cute post!
The closest I come to knowing any bloggers IRL is my friend, Zazzy, who I met online many years ago. We have actually had conversations over the phone, but have not been in the same place at the same time. Also, I follow a blog (Jim's Wanderings) written by my cousin's husband. We also have never actually been in the same place at the same time, but I do know his wife. :D
ReplyDeleteMy DIL has a blog (she got a happy birthday post from me today). Both of my sons have had blogs, but not anymore. Ditto with my hubby, although his is still up.
ReplyDeleteSo.. if you count them, then yes, I do know some bloggers IRL.
I'm guessing that's not what you mean, though.
I've met one non-related blogger awhile back, but we've lost touch. I almost met Misty (who I also posted about today) and another one, Autumn, last April when we were on vacation. We'll try again another time!
I've met others from online, but not from blogging.
Oh and I met my hubby online, too!
You have an award waiting! Come check it out!

I know! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI know a few bloggers IRL. One of them moved out of state. As far as I know, my co-workers do not blog but quite a few of them are on facebook. My best co-worker just had a baby so she's going to stay home with him after this school year is over. I'm trying to get her into blogging & facebook. She's the only one I wish would blog.
P.S. My kids know I blog and sometimes read. My daughter will comment. She has a blog also but hasn't updated in months. My husband reads my blog, but just lurks. He never comments! Unless he wants to "fuss" or set the record straight about my son's baseball.
ReplyDeleteUntil today the only bloggers I knew IRL were people I knew before we blogged. But TODAY! I had so much fun meeting you and Kris! It was just like we have always been friends, wasn't it? I can't wait to get together again. The Fab 4 from Houston! :-)
