Nefertiti by Michelle Moran
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
The whole reason I participate in book clubs is that it causes me to read books outside my preferred genre. I normally get stuck in a rut, reading the same authors, same genre, and I'm always pleasantly surprised when I read a good book someone else has chosen for me. This time was no exception.
I LOVED this book! At the center of the story is the only female Pharoah in Egyptian history. It is told from her sister's point of view. The book is historically accurate but never boring. The characters are layered and the descriptions rich. Family, drama, religion, romance, jealousy, rivalry, war, bitterness, betrayal, and wealth combine to create a book you won't want to put down.
Nefertiti (full synopsis here) reminds me of The Other Boelyn Girl because both books are about a family's efforts to gain power and privilege through one of the daughters. And I enjoyed The Other Boelyn Girl, but I think Nefertiti was even better. Fabulous book! Now I'm going to have to look into reading The Heretic Queen (full synopsis here).

This sounds very interesting. I'll have to keep my eyes open for it.
