Monday Movie Meme

It's time for The Monday Movie Meme hosted by The Bumbles Blog, and what better time to discuss movies than the day after the Academy Awards!

This week's FEATURE PRESENTATION...
Memorable Oscar Moments...

One that stands out in my memory was when Sally Fields won the Oscar for Best Actress in 1985 for the movie Places in the Heart. I couldn't embed the video, but here is the link if you want to watch.

The most memorable part of her speech: "I haven't had an orthodox career, and I've wanted more than anything to have your respect. The first time I didn't feel it, but this time I feel it, and I can't deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me!" (Quote Credit) (Image Credit)

Another memorable moment for me was Billy Crystal's opening monologue in 1992. Again, I couldn't embed the video, but here is the link.
Billy Crystal entered as "Hannibal Lecter" brought in by two "guards" dressed in white. He went out to the audience to speak to Anthony Hopkins and said he would like to "have him for dinner." I really think Billy Crystal did a great job with the Oscars every year he hosted. (Image Credit)

Friday Confessional

Join Mamarazzi and Glamazon for some good, old-fashioned confession!

I confess...

Since my husband's been out of town this week, I have gotten a lot more done than usual, like taking all of our donated items and dropping them off, cleaning out the tupperware cabinet, hand washing clothes, ironing clothes, taking the kids to a movie, working on a scrapbook page, and so much more.

But... I confess...

I will be so glad when he gets home tonight! It will be easier to eat healthy when he is here. Plus I "kinda" miss him. Like, a lot!

And... I confess...

I'm looking forward to tomorrow's basketball game so I can watch my fave Rocket play.

Have a great weekend!

Company Girl Coffee

Come on in! Stay and visit a while!

How did you do with your makeovers yesterday? Rachel Anne comes up with the best ideas to help us build peace and beauty in our homes and in our lives. I made over a couple of displays at work, made my bed (which I do every day), made over a couple of piles of things around the house, and made over my "tupperware" cabinet.

I took all this mess...
Cut it down to this....
And put it in the cabinet like this...

Feels good to get something productive done! My husband has been out of town all week, and I have gotten a lot of other things done that I wouldn't normally do, but he's coming home today, and I'm so glad! Rockets game tomorrow! I hope you all have a great weekend!

Bologna and Cream Soda

Isn’t it funny how a certain food sparks a memory? In this case, a bologna sandwich.

I see myself at age 6 or 7, standing in our kitchen, impish grin on my face, about to eat lunch which consisted of a bologna and mayo sandwich and a cream soda to drink. I can picture my young self in shorts and a red and white halter top that my mom made for me, chin-length light brown hair all a mess from playing outside with friends. Red light/Green light? Mother May I? Or maybe making mud pies and “selling” them?

The day took a turn for the worse after lunch. Bologna, mayonnaise, and cream soda (as well as a hot summer day) do not mix well. I will leave it at that. Almost 40 years later, I still won’t drink cream soda! And only in the last couple of years have I begun to eat bologna again, with caution.

This post was inspired by the topic "food" at Sunday Scribblings.

Friday Confessional

Join Mamarazzi and Glamazon for some good, old-fashioned confession!

I confess...

I was secretly relieved when the teacher/counselor told my son he couldn't sign up for pre-Advanced Placement chemistry (he'll have to take "regular" chemistry) next year since he wasn't also enrolling in preAP Algebra 2 at the same time. I'm proud that he wants to take a tougher class, but I did NOT want to deal with a huge science fair project, and I didn't want to see him struggle.

I confess...

I think one of the reasons I hate grocery shopping is the way they sack my groceries.

YES! I want my milk in a bag.

YES! I want my gatorade in a bag.

YES! I want my paper towels in a bag.

Why do they have to ask that? Or worse, they don't ask, and it just gets thrown back into the basket which makes it hard to get it in the house. And

NO! I don't want something heavy in the bag with my bread! It always seems to get crushed.

Oh, I feel better now!

Thursday Thirteen

I've been filling out course selection cards for my soon-to-be sophomore twins. When I was in high school (I know... back in the "dark" ages) we could choose typing, psychology, sociology, journalism, homemaking, shop class, agriculture, accounting, and that was just about it. I wish they'd had more of these courses I would have liked to take!

1. American Sign Language - I'm glad our state has finally recognized this as an actual language. My daughter will take her second year next fall, and she loves it!

2. Architectural Design - They actually get to learn how to use AutoCAD programs!

3. Audio-Video Production

4. Ceramics

5. Creative Writing - I had to wait until my sophomore year of college to take a class like this.

6. Digital and Interactive Multi-Media

7. Fashion Design

8. Fashion Marketing

9. Forensic Science

10. Medical Terminology - My senior daughter took this last year and loved it.

11. Media Literacy Film Criticism

12. Web Technologies

13. World Heath Research

I probably would have enjoyed any of these electives! My, how things have changed! What was your favorite elective in high school? Click here for more Thursday 13!

Monday Movie Meme

The Monday Movie Meme is hosted by The Bumbles. Come play!

Feature Presentation

MONEY! Making money, finding money, stealing money, sharing money, losing money, spending money. Anything goes!

Trading Places (1983) This hilarious comedy stars Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy. Two commodities brokers devise a friendly wager. One of them believes that he can take a common criminal and turn him into a successful businessman.

The Cooler (2003) William H. Macy stars as the unluckiest man in Vegas. He works at a casino as a "cooler." When a table is hot, he shows up to cool it down. However, when he falls in love... well, I'll let you watch the movie. Brewster's Millions (1985) Here's another funny movie starring Richard Pryor and John Candy. A baseball player has 30 days to spend 30 million dollars in order to inherit 300 million. I can't imagine!

Sunday Scrappin'

Hi! Welcome back to another week of Sunday Scrappin'! This makes two in a row for me because I was able to go to a scrap retreat last weekend, so I'm excited. Here's hoping I can get something done this week so I can post again next Sunday. If you like to do any sort of paper crafts, please join us!

I was able to get 17 pages completed at the retreat. That's basically all we did for the entire weekend... scrap! I loved it. I'm only posting a sample of what I did.
This one is already in plastic, so it may not show up well. I did this for a challenge. We were to use at least 4 patterned papers on one page. The patterns don't show up well in the photo, but they are there. I also added jewels, fibers, and paper tape.
This next one is probably my favorite. Our daughter's color guard show was themed "From Darkness to Light." I thought black and white was perfect for this. I had some pretty paper, and I added ribbon, flowers, brads, punched paper, and torn paper.
This is my castle/Cinderella page. I had a castle brad that came in one of my Disney packs. The top left says, "Having a ball at the castle." The castle on the right side of the left page is layered from another piece of paper with foam squares. On the right, in addition to glittery stickles, there is inking on the photo mats, and a flower and brad. I used foam squares to make the word "Cinderella" pop. Wish my pictures showed up better!
Regardless of the way the pages turned out, I had so much fun, and I can't wait to do it again! Happy scrappin'!

Friday Confessional

Confession is good for the soul! Join Mamarazzi and Glamazon for Friday Confessional.

I confess...

I HATE to grocery shop! I don't know why, I just do. I dread going to the grocery store to stock up on groceries every weekend. Yes, I want to have food for my family to eat, but I wish my husband would let me order from Alice.com. Even if he did, he would still insist we get certain things at the grocery store.

I don't look forward to driving to the store, parking, going up and down the aisles, checking out, loading the car, and unloading the car at home. I don't mind planning meals, making a grocery list, and I don't even mind putting the groceries away when we get home. But... I would rather scrub the toilets than actually do the grocery shopping!

I confess...

I will not give up my beverage of choice... Classic Coca-Cola! I have lowered my fat intake drastically in an effort to improve my cholesterol, and I have been carefully monitoring my calorie intake, but the one things I WILL NOT GIVE UP is my Coke! I have cut down to two a day, but it is not going to get any better than that. That's just the way it is!

Whew! It feels good to confess!

GWO!

That's right! Not just a Girl's Night Out, but a whole Girl's Weekend Out!
Flat Mamarazzi was ready to go Friday morning, but we were delayed due to icy roads. (Really? This is South Texas. What's up with that?) We got a late start, but Flat Mamarazzi didn't fuss one bit. She wasn't even grumpy that I had to drive 12 miles out of my way to avoid icy overpasses in order to pick my sister up.
Finally on the road four hours late, we rocked out to Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin on the three and a half hour drive to the boonies , ummm... country. Ever heard of Belton or Temple, Texas? Here's where we spent our weekend, The Rockin' R Retreat and Event Center.

One of the first things I had to do was get Flat Mamarazzi set up with a diet Pepsi (with ice balls and a straw).

Now we were ready to meet some of the other gals we were spending the weekend with. Flat Mamarazzi made lots of new friends. She's so vivacious and likeable!
Then it was time to get down to business! We were here to create scrapbook pages!
We also watched a movie on the computer, listened to my iPod, and stayed up far too late giggling! And of course, we had to eat.
I don't think Flat Mamarazzi minded a bit when I snored breathed too loudly while I was sleeping, and she didn't seem fazed by my singing in my sleep. (Yes, you read that right. Ask my sister!)
We didn't get much sleep, and we were up early for our second day of scrapping. We also took a long walk outside to breathe the cool, crisp, country air and took some time to sit in the rocking chair with the Nook and catch up on some reading.
What a great Girl's Weekend Out! Time to giggle, make friends, and get our "craft" on! Flat Mamarazzi enjoyed every minute of it. It was over all too soon!

Dei Fratelli Review

A box arrived not too long ago with all of these great tomato products in it!
Good thing, too. We eat a lot of spaghetti sauce and salsa at my house. I had never heard of Dei Fratelli before I was offered this chance to review their products. "Dei Fratelli" means "of the brothers" which is a fitting name for this family-owned company from Ohio. What really impresses me most is that they make their products from seeds that they cultivate themselves.

The salsa is great with any kind of tortilla chip or on tostadas. We used the pasta sauce on regular spaghetti, French bread pizzas, as well as on chicken parmigian.
The "Traditional" sauce is rich with spices and tastes very "tomatoe-y" which is how I like it. And something I noticed about all of the products I tried is that they taste fresh, and they are low in fat. For those who are allergic to gluten, you'll be glad to know that all of their products are naturally gluten-free. They also make low salt and no salt versions of many of their products.

With everything from canned tomatoes, pasta sauces, salsas, and juices to sauerkraut, you're sure to find something you like. And you can buy Dei Fratelli products online. I hope your family enjoys these products as much as mine did.

This post was written for Family Review Network & Dei Fratelli who provided the complimentary product for review in exchange for my honest opinions.

Sunday Scrappin'

Come on and do some Sunday Scrappin' with me! Digital, traditional, or any kind of paper crafts... please come on over and link up!

I'm still at my scrapbook retreat. I've finished 13 pages so far and 2 cards. The cards aren't coming home with me, though, so that's all you get to see right now. The cards are being sent to soldiers so that they have cards to send home to wives, kids, parents, etc. on birthdays and holidays. One that I did was a birthday card. The other one was a holiday card, but the word JOY doesn't show up well in the picture. And the gray or brown behind the cards isn't part of the card.
Can't wait to show you some of my pages next week! Have a scrappy week!
