I've been filling out course selection cards for my soon-to-be sophomore twins. When I was in high school (I know... back in the "dark" ages) we could choose typing, psychology, sociology, journalism, homemaking, shop class, agriculture, accounting, and that was just about it. I wish they'd had more of these courses I would have liked to take!
1. American Sign Language - I'm glad our state has finally recognized this as an actual language. My daughter will take her second year next fall, and she loves it!
2. Architectural Design - They actually get to learn how to use AutoCAD programs!
3. Audio-Video Production
4. Ceramics
5. Creative Writing - I had to wait until my sophomore year of college to take a class like this.
6. Digital and Interactive Multi-Media
7. Fashion Design
8. Fashion Marketing
9. Forensic Science
10. Medical Terminology - My senior daughter took this last year and loved it.
11. Media Literacy Film Criticism
12. Web Technologies
13. World Heath Research
I probably would have enjoyed any of these electives! My, how things have changed! What was your favorite elective in high school? Click here for more Thursday 13!
It wasn't my favorite, but I'm most grateful for typing as an elective. I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't touch-type while working on writing deadlines!

Art was my favorite. I went on to college to be a scientific illustrator. Unfortunatly technology put us all out of work so I became a writer.
ReplyDeleteWhat a list!
Happy TT.
what a great idea! i just went through this with my 11th grader. he's a woodshop kinda guy! Me I took every band class I could. Great post!
ReplyDeleteYeah, the courses offered now are so different from when I was in high school. I'm both envious, and for my children glad.
ReplyDeleteMy high school did offer ceramics as an art elective in the early 1990s, and I loved it. We had a few of those great kickwheels with the huge kicking stones. I loved being able to kick back for an hour and just work on spinning a bowl. I spent nearly a semester with clay dust on my feet & shirts after that class and didn't care at all.
ReplyDeleteHappy T13!
wow things really have changed!
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to do Forensic Science too Diana.
ReplyDeleteI did hospitality (basically first year apprenticeship chef) and photography. Loved photography.
I loved a class we called Purple Pantry... it was a cooking class. It was AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to take the sign language course. I remember wanting to take art so bad, and my Dad wouldn't let me. I wanted to take German as well, but that got nixed as well. I guess that's why I give my girls freedom to choose their courses.
