Guess how I spent my Friday night? Working. Yes, it's spring break, but there was so much to do to prepare for teaching next week, and I have plans for the rest of the weekend, so Friday night was the only time I had.
I'm really excited about their upcoming lessons. I spent about two hours making plans, creating documents, etc., for my sixth grade language arts students. They will be working in cooperative learning groups using novels appropriate for their individual reading levels. I hope they enjoy it while they learn.

Then, I had to make a 10 PM run to FedEx/Kinko's to make copies, which I paid for out of my own pocket ($40-something - and, no, I won't get reimbursed). The copy machine at school hasn't been working lately. The repair man has been there every day for the last couple of weeks. I wish I could say I was exaggerating, but it's true. I don't know why they don't replace it.
So, that was my exciting Friday night! How did you spend yours?
Consoling my step daughter, Kera. She and her boyfriend (the father of her baby) David broke up, however he is still living with us because they are still not giving up totally. Yeah screwed up.
ReplyDeleteAs you can tell there we have that in common too...step children and yes I have been through a divorce. I was married to the boys' father for 15 years, 14 years together the last year going through the divorce. I also have a teaching degree K-6, I just never found an actual teaching job in the area where my first husband worked so I gave up.
How lucky for your students and fingers crossed for you and your school getting an actual working copier, something so needed for teaching.
i remember those days of spending my own money just to make my job easier.
ReplyDeleteIt's terrible how much money teachers have to spend out of their own pockets. I work at a school too in the office. I have to pull money out of my own pocket on a regular basis too for all the extras. There are so many things people don't realize when it comes to what really goes on in schools.
ReplyDeleteI hate that teachers have to pay to be great teachers. It is so wrong! If I had my way you would be paid more then the football players. Society has it so BACKWARDS!
ReplyDeletewhat did I do friday night?
ReplyDeletehm... sleeping, I guess :D
that was a productive friday night you had!
You are exactly the kind of teacher that I hope my girls get one day. It amazes me how little you guys have to work with & how much of yourself & your own money that you put toward the kids. You rock!!!
