Random Tuesday

Link up with Stacy for some randomness!

School is in full swing!  After being out for two weeks due to Hurricane Harvey, being back is a good feeling.

There was a school that contacted us during the hurricane that said they would like to help us.  Most of what we lost in our classroom was personal items that make our room warm, inviting, and comfortable.  They wrote me back saying they didn't want to replace any items like that, only school supplies.  Well, we've already received tons of school supplies. That isn't what got ruined due to flooding, either.  I was quite taken aback.  I guess you just can't please some people.

My husband and I went to Huntsville (Texas, not Alabama) to see my son on Saturday.  We did a lot of tourist-y type things.  I had always wanted to go to the Texas Prison Museum, and since my son is majoring in Criminal Justice, it was good for him, too.  We went to see some of Sam Houston's actual building and homes.  Plus we visited the 67 foot tall statue.  I had fun!

Birthday number _ _ (when you get to a certain age, you'd rather not announce the number) is coming up on Saturday.  I'm trying to decide where I want to go for dinner.  I'd like it to be somewhere we don't usually go, so not Outback, not Olive Garden, not Cajun or pizza.  If you're familiar with the Houston area, particularly south Houston, I'd love to hear your recommendations!

Of course, if David Meade is correct, the world will end September 23.  He is a "Christian numerologist," whatever that means, who believes earthquakes, hurricanes, and the eclipse are signs of the apocalypse.  You can read about it here.

Have you ever tried Skinny Pop?  I love this popcorn!  The plain, original kind with no weird flavoring on it.  It's so good!

How 'bout them Astros?  2017 AL West Division Champs!

So, what are you up to this week?

  1. Hello, Forgetfulone!

I'm glad you're back to teaching. I remember the spring flood of 1976 in southern WV. We were out of school for what seemed like forever but in reality, it probably wasn't any longer than a week, two at the most. The high school was closed for nearly a month, though. I was more than ready to go back to school. I got terribly sick during all that mess, too.

Sam Houston's School House is here in Knoxville which I shared my photo op with my readers a few years back if you're interested in checking out. ;)

It's too bad the homey feel of your classroom got destroyed by Harvey. I hope you can replace these things soon. I wonder if you can put a donation button on your blog for anyone interested to contribute funds to help you replenish items lost by the hurricane?

I'll tell you now, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I usually like getting Mexican food for my special day but that's a long time away. It doesn't bother me to tell my age because I'm young at heart regardless of the number of candles (God forbid you to put that many on my cake!).

I have not had Skinny Pop but I love popcorn! Plain, salted variety is purrfect with me but on occasions I like using some of the popcorn seasonings.

Have a good day and happy randomizing!

  2. The response of those who wanted to "help" is rather baffling. If it were me, i'd rather give what's truly needed than just generic supplies.

Sam Houston was an interesting, complicated person (as are almost all historical figures when you start to delve into their lives). It sounds like a fun trip.

Wishing you many happy returns of your birthday!
