Sunday Synopsis

E is for Evidence (Kinsey Millhone, #5)E is for Evidence by Sue Grafton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I like the Alphabet series from Sue Grafton! The protagonist is Kinsey Millhone, a private investigator. In this tale, Kinsey is not just investigating others, she's under investigation as an accessory to insurance fraud and arson.

Two days after Christmas, Kinsey is reviewing her bank statement which shows a cash deposit of $5,000 was made, yet she did not make the deposit and has no idea who did. This was the beginning of the attempt to frame Kinsey. Characters from Kinsey's past show up such as the Wood family, owners of the business in question and whose children she knew in school ws. She loses her subcontracting to the insurance company and has to leave her office. Not only that, but her landlord is out of town, her favorite hangout is closed, and to top it off, her ex-husband Daniel shows up. If she doesn't decipher this mystery soon, she will not only completely lose her business and credibility, she could go to jail for a long time, or be killed in the process of the frame-up.

The plot of this book is very clever. It will keep you guessing. This book also reveals details about Kinsey that the reader was not privy to in previous books. This furthers her endearment to the reader. The plot is fast-paced and has an ending that solves the conflict. Some books I've read lately don't. Grafton has an amazing ability to describe characters in such a way that you feel you know them, and she gives them the right balance of both good and not-so-good characteristics. And although this is a series, each book has its own conflicts and resolutions so that it stands on its own so you can start anywhere in the series. There is also placement of some light-hearted moments to keep the balance between seriousness and humor.

I'm only five books into the series and it will definitely take a long time to read them all, but I will try
