Have you noticed the use of the word "phobia" lately? As a grammarian, it bothers me when it is used to mean disapproval. It's supposed to mean an irrational fear. For example, arachnophobia is a fear of spiders. I'm not afraid of spiders, though. I just don't like them.
And did you know there is a "new" phobia called nomophobia. It is a fear of being either without your cell phone or without an internet connection. I'm not afraid of that, either. But it is annoying not to have my phone or wifi.
Pognophobia is a fear of facial hair. I can't imagine! Anyway... my point is that disapproval of something does not mean I am afraid of it, and maybe we should not say someone is phobic just because they don't particularly like something. Unless we are talking about ophidiophobia. Fear of snakes! And for me, it IS a fear, not just a dislike.
Moving right along...
I have an aversion to porta-potties, too! |
And I will end the phobia talk with this one! |
How about a food/Star Wars pun?
And last, but not least, something to make you smile, and maybe even say Awww
Have a great week!
Our mom has a serious snake phobia. She will have nightmares if she sees one and she remembers all the places where she has seen one and will never go back there. Even photos of snakes terrorize her. Thankfully we rarely see one here where we live.
ReplyDeleteI have phobias too and snakes are one of them. There are lots of things I don't like, but I agree that's not a phobia.
ReplyDeleteLove all the funnies and a huge Awww on that kitty.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. ♥
Heeheehee! Less door, that's a good one. They're all funny.
ReplyDeleteNo fear of snakes or spiders or such here, but i cannot stand roaches. They get squished, and that right quickly.
